Tina Turner Biography

Anna Mae Bullock was born November 26th 1939 in Brownsville, Tennessee. Better known by her stage name Tina Turner, she is a singer whose career has spanned more than half a century, earning her widespread recognition and numerous awards. Turner started out her music career in the mid-1950s as a featured singer with Ike Turner's Kings of Rhythm, first recording in 1958 under the name Little Ann with the song, "Box Top". Her introduction to the public as Tina Turner began in the early 1960s with Ike as a member of the Ike & Tina Turner Revue. Success followed with a string of notable hits including "River Deep – Mountain High" (1966) and "Proud Mary" (1971).

In 1962 Tina and Ike married in Tijuana, but their marriage was fraught with problems from the outset and in 1978 the couple were divorced. Following her divorce, Tina Turner rebuilt her career by constantly performing, eventually launching another series of hits starting in 1983 with the single "Let's Stay Together" and the 1984 release of her fifth solo album Private Dancer. "What's Love Got to Do with It" the most popular single from the album, would later serve as the title of a biographical film about Turner that was adapted from her autobiography.

As one of the world's most popular entertainers, Tina Turner has been called the most successful female rock artist and was named "one of the greatest singers of all time" by Rolling Stone magazine. Tina is known for her energetic stage presence, powerful vocals, career longevity and her widespread appeal and she boasts a combined album and single career sales total of 180 million copies worldwide.

Tina Turner Tribute Act - Janice's Biography

Janice has been making music and singing for as long as she can remember. She has memories of being asked to sing on stage at the age of three, singing at the top of her lungs, in her hometown of Kingston Jamaica. Janice love for music continued when she came to the UK and she soon developed a love for gospel music and became a member of the 'London Community Gospel Choir'. She soon started to tour around the world with the choir and had the pleasure of singing for Princess Diana and the Royal Family.

Janice formed her first Motown girl group 'The Gems' covering songs by the Supremes, Gladys Knight, Tina Turner and Diana Ross and she also toured extensively with 'The Gems' throughout Europe. Her television debut came when she was invited to sing with Michael Barrymore on ITV's Christmas special and she later performed again for the Royal Family at the Queen's Jubilee celebrations.

Major success came for Janice when she was asked to sing for the late great Michael Jackson's charity fundraising concert in 2002 where Michael himself also took part. She later became a member of the group 'Mai Tai' who supported 80's Legends Shalamar during their world tour. Janice has also toured globally with Boney M and has performed in some of the best venues to audiences of 100,000+.

Janice is not only a singer but she is also a very talented songwriter and has written and recorded her debut album 'Get Lucky' which is a mixture of soulful rock, R&B and Popular Dance Music. Janice is influenced by the great R&B female singers such as Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughn, Dinah Washington, Nina Simone, Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, Gladys Knight, Whitney Houston, Mary J Blige and Diana Ross. Janice also recently appeared in the very popular West-End Musical "Respect la Diva" at the Garrick Theatre as part of the ensemble.
